Li-Ve Tasmania has appointed Darren Mathewson as Chief Executive Officer, taking over from long-time CEO, Paul Byrne. Darren will join Li-Ve Tasmania from 10 February 2020.

‘Darren will support and promote Li-Ve Tasmania’s values, and champion its person-centred approach to maintain the organisation’s growth trajectory as a quality disability support provider,’ says Chair, Sue Leitch.

Darren comes to Li-Ve Tas from Aged and Community Services Australia (ACSA) where he has spent three years in the role of Executive Director. Before his role at ACSA, Darren enjoyed nine years as the CEO for Aged and Community Services Tasmania. Prior to that, he held senior roles within the union movement.

Darren was chosen via a competitive selection process from a strong field of candidates. He is an impressive talent known for his innovation, collaboration and focus on positive outcomes in the challenging sector environment.

Reflecting on his appointment, Darren says, ‘I am honoured and excited to be leading the team at Li‑Ve Tasmania and engaging with the Board to implement the strategic plan. Filling Paul Byrne’s shoes will be no easy feat. Luckily, I have always enjoyed a challenge.’

Initially, Darren will work alongside Paul Byrne, visiting the organisation’s sites, and meeting staff, participants and families. The transition process will be complete by the end of March next year.

Darren’s current position sees him spending a lot of time out of the state. He is pleased to be heading up a Tasmanian-based organisation that will allow him to spend more time with his family.
