Building staff skills for even better support
Posted March 31, 2021
At Li-Ve Tasmania, we’re proud of our commitment to making sure our staff have the skills, knowledge and qualities to keep providing quality disability supports to our participants.
Li-Ve Tas Exceeding Expectations Program (LEEP)
Since October last year, we have been upskilling our disability support workers in a range of areas including:
• human rights
• supported decision-making
• capacity
• consent.
Understanding these important ideas and how they apply to the people we support is a great way to make sure our staff know how to balance participants’ choice and control with their support needs. In this way we can make sure our services are genuinely person-centred and that participants get the respect, support and understanding they need and deserve.
IT training
I am always amazed at the dedication of our staff and their willingness to embrace change, which is not always an easy thing to do!
Take, for example, the roll-out of our new IT system. The launch of our new IT system on 1 March has meant all our staff need to be confident and techsavvy. So they can make the most of the new system, we’ve provided paid online training for every Li-Ve Tas staff member.
Having everybody using a purpose-built central system will ultimately make our services better and more consistent. This will mean even higher quality supports for the people we support and a smoother, faster experience for everyone.
