Families in crisis after NDIS funding cuts to participants...

ABC news online

This recent ABC headline saddened me deeply. It describes a situation playing out for many people with disability and their families across Australia. Our Li-Ve Tas community is no exception. NDIA funding cuts are a threat to participants’ right to live full and meaningful lives.

What to do if the NDIA cuts your funding

If the NDIA makes a funding decision you don’t agree with, you can:

  • ask for a review
  • appeal, after the review, if you need to
  • get help to appeal.

Come to a Li-Ve Tas community forum

Find out about the process to make your case to the NDIA with information from Tasmania Legal Aid at a Li-Ve Tas community forum:

  • Thursday 7 April, 12.30-2.30pm or 5.30-7.30pm

You can attend in person at the Howrah Community Centre, view the livestream from our High Street office in Launceston, or view it from your own device. These sessions will also be a chance to ask questions and to chat with me and other Li-Ve Tas staff. I hope to see you there. To express your interest, register online, call Alison Haertel on 6227 5401 or email executiveassistant@livetasmania.org

Teamwork works for a strong NDIS

The federal election is coming soon. We all need to make sure the government and the opposition know that we expect them to properly fund the NDIS. To take action, we can:

  • talk to our local representatives and candidates about what it means when plans get cut
  • join the campaign to support more than 450,000 Australians with disability – it’s free to join, takes only a moment, and it has the backing of the people who lobbied the government to get the NDIS set up in the first place.
